PURSUIT ATHLETE Rob Wood Takes on His 5th Major Marathon in Tokyo—One Step Closer to the Coveted Six Star Medal

This Sunday, Pursuit Athlete and London, Ontario native, Rob Wood is lacing up for his 14th marathon and 5th World Major Marathon in Tokyo. With this race, he moves one step closer to an achievement only a select few runners worldwide can claim—the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Medal.

The Journey to Six Stars

The Abbott World Marathon Majors consists of six of the most prestigious marathons in the world:

  • Tokyo Marathon (Japan) - Rob is set to complete it March 2 2025

  • Boston Marathon (USA) - Rob completed it in 2023

  • London Marathon (UK) - Rob completed it in 2024

  • Berlin Marathon (Germany)

  • Chicago Marathon (USA) - Rob completed it in 2024

  • New York City Marathon (USA) - Rob completed it in 2011

Completing all six earns runners the Six Star Medal, a symbol of dedication, endurance, and elite marathon status. As of 2023, only about 12,000 runners worldwide have achieved this feat—a small number compared to the millions who participate in marathons annually.

Training with Pursuit Athletic Centre

Rob’s marathon success hasn’t come by chance. Since 2021, he has been training with Pursuit Athletic Centre, working with Adam and Marcus to build strength, endurance, and race-day readiness. The expertise in performance coaching and preventative therapy has helped him fine-tune his running mechanics, improve recovery, and prepare both mentally and physically to crush each marathon on his journey to Six Stars.

Tokyo: The Final Stretch

Rob has already conquered Boston, London, Chicago, and New York City. Now, in Tokyo, he’s taking on his fifth major, leaving only Berlin left to complete his Six Star journey. The Tokyo Marathon, known for its fast course and electric atmosphere, attracts over 38,000 runners each year and is a bucket-list race for distance runners worldwide.

The Numbers Behind the Challenge

  • The average marathon finish time is 4 hours and 21 minutes.

  • Less than 1% of the world’s population has completed a marathon.

Rob’s commitment to his training with Pursuit Athletic Centre has fuelled his progress, proving that running is as much about mental strength and consistency as it is about physical endurance.
